ONE STEP AT A TIME

The first post.

I entertained thoughts of making my first post a picture of myself on top of one of Montana’s many peaks triumphantly standing on a rocky ledge gazing down on the lush dark green valley through the clouds below. Triumphant? Yes. Epic? Absolutely.  Accurate depiction of where this blog should start? Probably not. Pictorial metaphor of my daily life? You’re kidding right? Like most of us I spend most days gazing wistfully at the snowy peaks, not on top of them. Only soapbox racers and rich assholes in helicopters start at the top.

It won’t be epic from Day 1. Or Post 1. Hell, as I type this I’m fighting the urge to delete this whole thing and watch another Last Week Tonight clip on Youtube. But as in getting through any tough hike, rough patch, or marching towards a great moment, things happen one step at a time. One foot in front of the other. You get there, eventually. Every once in a while you allow yourself to turn around and think “Wow, I used to be back there” and hopefully one day I’ll look back/down and think “Wow, that first post was years ago……and…..damn I’m a better writer now!” So the peaks will have to wait but they will be climbed.  And you will have come along. For now I move along the flat and shaded path knowing both peaks (and valleys (and bears, more on that later)) await.

That’s all fine and dandy but what exactly is this blog going to be about you ask?

Hell if I know, never been on this path before.

  1. Great read, Rob. Good on you for escaping and taking on what nature has to offer. I’ve always been fascinated with Montana and hope to find myself there one day. Enjoy your time there and finish the damn book, so that middle aged housewives can have something to beat off to between nap time.
