The Friday Twist- Five Trips to Take in the Next Five Years

I hate lists of things to do before I die. Why wait that long? Let’s get to it.

  1. Prince Edward Island/St. John/Halifax- Part of travel is going to a destination for a specific reason (city, landmark, historical significance) and part of it is looking on a map and saying “I want to go there.” I’ve always wanted to go to this part of North America. Maritime cities fascinate me and the older the better. Throw in the friendliness of our neighbors to the north and how cool it is to say “Nova Scotia” and you have yourself a beauty of a trip, eh?
  2. Riding a motorcycle through Vietnam/Laos- Besides having read every definitive book on the Vietnam War and watched Anthony Bourdain’s episode on Vietnam my knowledge of this part of the world is lacking. I don’t care, I’m going. I want to see Vietnam. I want Vietnam to see me. The tall, bearded American cruising through the countryside on a motorcycle seeing and smelling everything this part of the world has to offer. From the chaos of the urban areas to the back-in-time feel of the countryside plus the food…..oh, the food.
  3. Oregon- From Portland to Eugene to the Rogue Valley to the Cascades to Nez Perce to the coastal towns to Crater Lake to Mount Hood to the Columbia River. Think I can do that in a weekend? Me neither. Good.
  4. Appalachian Trail- All of it. Georgia to Maine. One step at a time.
  5. Nowhere- Staying in bed on a Sunday morning (no, a Monday morning) with an amazing person and traveling in our conversation. Not getting out of bed (okay, she may have to get out to make coffee) and more importantly, not wanting to leave her side.

Five years. Doable.
